A starting point for end mill selection
Before choosing a tool, define the job it needs to do.
Start with the workpiece
Identify the material and condition of your stock. Record the material grade when requesting tool recommendations.
Describe the operation
Are you slotting, profiling, roughing, or finishing? Note the depth of cut, required reach, and available clearance.
Compare the specifications
Check diameter, flute count, coating, and tool material. Use the GEM comparison page to view available specifications side by side.
Confirm the cutting parameters
Use the tool manufacturer's recommendations for your exact tool, machine, and workpiece. This selection checklist does not provide speeds and feeds.
